Enchanted Garden Bible Church, Sermon notes and commentary, 1/17/2011,
1 Timothy, Norman DeArmond Timotheus: honorer of God Here as pastor to the very large and powerful
Ephesian assembly of believers. 1 Timothy 1:1. Define Hope: The Lord Jesus Christ is our hope. gate 4: Hope and Joy; Joy in
believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. 1:3&4. Now that we have the internet we can expect the proliferation of strange doctrines
and endless genealogies. The pastor is to instruct certain men not to teach them because they give rise to mere speculation
rather than ministering God by encouraging belief in Bible Teaching. 5. Goal of pastoral instruction: abide in Christ's love
starting with a cleansed heart at gate 2 and a conscience steeped in belief in Bible teaching. 6 &7. Some have strayed
from Bible teaching into fruitless discussions about the Torah that they don't even understand but confidently spout off about.
8&9. The Law is good, but it is not even for us, the justified by faith. It is for those who are sinners who identify
with their sinful ways, i.e. call themselves homosexual and or have "pride" in it. 10-16. Paul reminds pastors that, worse
than us, He was chief of sinners, yet God chose him as he chose us though we to are sinners saved by Grace. No one is good
enough to pastor to a legalist. 1:17-20. Benediction spurs Paul, humble and modest, to incite pastors, honorers of God, to
fight hard championing belief in Bible teaching and resultant Bible steeped consciences, departure from which shipwrecks belief
in Bible Teaching as with Hymenaus and Alexander. 2:1-8. First in order of importance Paul urges prayers to be made for governing
authorities, royals, officials so that we may be able to live a quiet and peaceful life. Why? We are people of the gospel
promoting Bible teaching at God's command everywhere and everyplace praying with uplifted hands. Result: God's will shall
be accomplished, faith in Christ will grow, and Jesus will receive his desire and just desserts, more and more of us saved
by Grace. 2:9-15. Perhaps with: While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said
to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed.” But He said, “On the contrary,
blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.” in mind; Paul demands women to be orderly in the assembly.
3:1&2. Few meet these criteria. why? bishops are forbidden to marry in the major denomination that calls pastors Bishops.
Paul is not married. So, this was a caution against polygamy, which president Obama stems from, his mother was his father's
second current wife. 3:4&5 I finally meet this criterion now that the kids are out of my house. 3:9. Hanging on to belief
in New Testament Bible Teaching extending even to a Bible based conscience. 3:13. Faithful pastors and deacons obtain high
standing in their believed Bible teaching and great confidence in their believed Bible teaching. 3:15. These should guide
your behaviour in the local assembly. 3:16. Benediction. 4:1-6. of whom Jude 14&15 spoke. Pastors are to warn and remind,
well nourished in good doctrines of believed Bible teaching principles. 4:7-10. avoid secular media and worldly wisdom, work
out godliness at gate 11, Situps and biking have a little profit, but gate 11 is paying profit now and in eternity. This is
what the Bible teaches and you should strive and suffer reproach after godliness, that is, endurance at gate 11. Why? Because
God is alive and we trust Him as savior of all men, especially of those who believe. 4:11,12. Command, teach, EXAMPLE: In
Word (Principled Bible teaching), In Lifestyle (lining life up with priority 1 progress in love to maturity), In Spirit(gate
2), In believed on Bible Teaching, in cleansing (from sin at gate 2, and staying that way, gates 3-6). 4:13 Attend to public
reading of scripture, to encouragement and exhortation, to categories and principles of Bible Teaching. 1 Timothy 4:14-16 It is in reading and studying the Bible or hearing it
read and explained by a faithful pastor that spiritual gifts are discerned, called out and inspired to be exercised. It is
the way of salvation to all, pastor and congregation alike. 5:1&2 Respect and courtesy. 5:3-16 Within the local assembly
the congregation should provide for those widows and orphans not under a safety net or family responsibility. 5:17 & 18
20%?? to successful pastors and teachers, Bible teaching is its own reward. Yet listen to the Bible. 5:19 Without corroboration
don't even listen to Satanic attack on pastors. 5:20 We all sin, church leaders who fail as in 2 Sam 12:13&14 need formal
attention 5:21 impartiality demanded of pastors 5:22 Don't launch new pastors hastily share in their sins 5:23 moderate alcohol
for stress disorders. 5:24&5 WE SHOULD CONFESS OUR SINS, JUDGING WITH GOD THAT WE HAVE FAILED. I reject the notion that
we can stop sinning. We can avoid sin by confession and filling of the Holy Spirit followed by singing hymns, rejoicing in
hope, giving thanks and blessing God, Humbling ourselves before God in prayer. It will not work forever. It will keep us in
God's love most of the time. 6:1&2 Christianity blesses slave and free, serf and baron gulag archipeleggan and commissar,
Maoist and laogai martyr. 6:3-5. Oddball Bible interpretations advocated not conforming to the Bible pushed by devoid of understanding
and conceited, morbidly interested in controversial questions and disputations about words from which spring envy, strife,
abusive language, evil suspicions. and constant friction between men of depraved mind, deprived of truth, who suppose Godliness
is a way to wealth. 6:6 It is if accompanied by contentment 6:7& 8 contentment here, seek for gain in heaven. 6:9 Desire
for wealth and love of money ensnare us in temptation and foolish, harmful desires. love of money is a root of all sorts of
evil, by longing for loot some wandered away from belief in Bible teaching, and pierced themselves with many a pang. 11. flee
from these things, pastors and pursue instead righteousness gate 1 and 2, godliness gate 11, belief in Bible teaching gate
8, God's love system culminating in love for God and people gates 9 and 10, and gentleness of humility, courtesy and modesty.
6:12 Again, fight hard with believed in Bible teachings as your weapons. Cling to your eternal life in Christ Pastors are
called to administer eternal life to others. Timothy professed eternal life to many and it was spoken of him. 6:13&14
Paul charges pastors before God who gives life to all things and will give eternal life to all who will be saved, and Christ
Jesus who witnessed to Pilate rather than pleading for his life, The Holy Spirit through Paul charges us pastors to keep the
command to witness administering eternal life in spotless irrebukable obedience until the appearing of our lord Jesus Christ.
6:15 Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. 6:16 Immortal robed in blinding light, unapproachable, absolutely powerful
and impeccably honorable forever. 6:16 admonish wealthy ones of this world: be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches.
God is alive, trust in Him! He richly gives us all things to enjoy. 6:17 Charge the rich to do good, that they may be rich
in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate with others in need, 6:18 so laying up a store for themselves the
treasure of a good foundation for the future, so the may cling tighter to eternal life. O pastor, guard the administration
of life and bible teaching God has entrusted to you. Avoid worldly secular chatter and opposition arguments from "knowledge"
which is really the lie which some professed and went astray from belief in Bible Teaching. Grace be with you, pastor.
